Welcome to Jester's Trek.
I'm your host, Jester. I've been an EVE Online player for about six years. One of my four mains is Ripard Teg, pictured at left. Sadly, I've succumbed to "bittervet" disease, but I'm wandering the New Eden landscape (and from time to time, the MMO landscape) in search of a cure.

Kill of the Week: Last practice

I didn't have time to look at this week's kills.  So I'm going to tell a little story instead.  Something gets killed in it, I promise.  ;-)

We decided on one last practice tonight.  Pandemic Legion has been watching our practices for about the last two weeks now pretty consistently, with two very important exceptions.  I'll tell that story after the tournament.  We don't mind.  They've been cool about it.  They haven't bothered us, we haven't bothered them.  Tonight was initially no exception.  A full seven PL members showed up in our practice system and started watching our practices.  We cheerfully chatted with them, they cheerfully chatted with us.  It was actually pretty fun.

Then PL's real nature emerged.

They started warping on our practice grid.  With carriers.  And again, we didn't see any problem with it.  We even provided them with a bookmark 155km off the center of the arena so they could watch.  No big deal!  Have fun.  Enjoy watching.  But it wasn't enough for them.

Their carriers started repping ships, disrupting our ability to practice.  And then they started jumping in Titans.  And then they started popping the bubble or container we were using as the center of our match.  Then the Titans started firing on ships in the practice arena.

So, we docked up, bought dreads and battleships and tier3s and hictors.  And we bubbled and killed one of the PL Titans.  Hee!  Then we forced the other to self-destruct.  Sisi, of course, but still great fun.  We all agreed afterward that the practice was rather superfluous.  God knows we've been practicing for months.  We were probably just making ourselves nervous.  So killing a PL Titan was a really nice method to relax!  PL, feel free to get me banned from Sisi until the next mirror if you like.  I will be happy if I never have to log into Sisi again in 2012, heh.

Here's the fit we killed if you're interested:

And here's everything that Mandrake Seriya seems to have in his Titan, including the pieces for his other fits and the ships he carries in his Ship Maintenance Array.  It's a pretty good bet the same stuff is in his Titan on Tranquility.  Some of you might find this information useful.  Enjoy!

  1. Not sure why _you_ should be banned from Sisi for this, Ripard. If anything, it strikes me that every single pilot who was a part of the fleet that disrupted your activity should be cast out of Sisi ... and I wouldn't exempt their leaders, either. Hit the ones who gave the orders to do this, as well as the line grunts who followed those orders. (Not that I think it would ever happen, mind you, CCP being who we know they are ...)

    1. Here's an article questioning ISD 'neutrality'on Sisi:
      http://www.evenews24.com/2012/07/14/shooting-your-own-foot-atx-sisi-practice/

Seems ISD can boot peeps for killing in certain systems in SiSi if they are neutrals

  2. Why would you get banned at all?

  3. It's really a smart move. Even if they're banned from Sisi for interfering, who cares -- nobody will be logging into that server for another nine months. No penalties that extend to TQ, so don't care.

As Brent would say, "gf nerds."

I'm only sad that we didn't stoop to doing the same.

  4. So, unless they count repping (that is repping someone's opponent) as a non-combat action(though it counts as aggression), then I believe they couldn't get you banned without getting them banned. They actively interfered with your practice, which is different than just being in your practice system or being on grid. Both are a form of meta-gaming, but I'd still suggest that they're douches and deserved to get a titan killed. Too bad it wasn't on TQ.

  5. PL. I wonder how many are ashamed they are in that alliance.

    1. Very few, I suspect. PL are damned good at what they do.

But the average PL member is hugely arrogant because of it, and I suspect they have a group peer mentality not much different from the middle schoolers that tormented that bus monitor in New York a couple weeks back.

    2. Most of the oldguard are pretty chill brosefs, honestly. PL Mumble is great fun. However, that group also doesn't really play Eve much anymore; the guys that ARE playing under the PL ticker tend to be pricks.

Wealth lasts three generations, and all that.

If we had gotten to the finals, I was going to ask Brent to give an AT ship to Coug/Ocicat. That guy was pure class even when he was spying on us.

    3. You should really make a Garth account and have him be a regular figure in the comments sections. You could even have a weekly: "Best of Garth" column. Absolutely priceless.

  6. I don't understand why this doesn't disqualify you from the tournament completely or even give you a ban from the game. I know meta-gaming is a big part of eve but I feel the tournament should be a different standard than normal nullsec squabbling.

To think our CSM chair belongs to the same alliance sickens me.

    1. Probably because there is no actual practice server for Alliance Tournaments. Thus SiSi is nothing but a fake live server to test patches and bugs. You could potentially practice on TQ, but obviously it's not as viable because of the cost of practicing. Every ship blown up would have to be replaced. Now if they just gave the teams a practice area on SiSi, then it would be easier to enforce. Hell, if they just made it so that any spying or interfering with AT practices on SiSi was a bannable offense... it would solve a lot of problems. (Though it would also create problems by people mass spamming accounts to interfere and get them all banned.)
