Welcome to Jester's Trek.
I'm your host, Jester. I've been an EVE Online player for about six years. One of my four mains is Ripard Teg, pictured at left. Sadly, I've succumbed to "bittervet" disease, but I'm wandering the New Eden landscape (and from time to time, the MMO landscape) in search of a cure.

Quote of the Week: Tomorrow Never Lies

I had intended that this week's QOTW be from the CSM Town Hall meeting on Saturday.  And I probably will do a secondary QOTW from it; the problem is I haven't listened to it yet.  But when I read this, I started laughing enough that it's hard to believe that something in the Town Hall will match it:
We acknowledge the inherent awkwardness of our current position, creating news with the one hand and reporting on it with the other.  We will attempt to be as unbiased as possible when posting here; compare the style of internal-CFC broadcasts (frothing) to our posting on the site.
Perhaps the most under-rated James Bond movie ever deals with the subject of a media baron who, as Roger Ebert put it, "likes to write headlines and design front pages in advance of big news events, and then make them happen."  It might be exaggerating -- slightly -- to characterize The Mittani as a Bond villain.(1)  Still, the parallel with the flick is unavoidable, and it's hard not to laugh at EVE life imitating art.

After all, the problem that Elliot Carver -- the Bond villian in question -- had was that it's hard to launch a new element of a media empire and get the requisite ratings if there's very little news to cover.  In real life, the ratings of news channels goes way way up when there's a major even to report on.  And launching a EVE news site in the midst of EVE's traditional summer slump is certainly going to be a bummer on the website ratings.

EVE is real, indeed.

Anyway, if you haven't guessed it by now, the QOTW honors go to themittani.com's coverage of the CFC's invasion of Tribute and the coming purge of NCdot tech moons there.  Ironically enough, I hardly need to cover that topic at all.  I've pretty much already said what I needed to say about the invasion itself.  The CFC had been claiming that they were just intending to capture the tech moons and were going to leave NCdot sov alone, deploying SBUs for "harassment" purposes only.  But if you believe that, I've got several nice 0.0 systems that I'll let you bear in.  Just let me light a cyno for your jump freighters.  The only surprise is that instead of going straight to H-W9TY and breaking NCdot's back, the CFC has apparently elected to go after NCdot pets first.  That might extend the war another week or two beyond what Delve took...

...and you know, it might not be tin-foil hattery to imagine that's the whole idea.  If the point is giving the CFC something to do, then a nice slow war that takes a little while might actually be what they're after.  It'd certainly help the website ratings, amirite?  Guess we'll see.  In the meantime, watch the news.  ;-)

  1. I wonder if the CSM town hall meeting will get any coverage on the site. That seems to be an area where The Mittani might have a bias issue as well.

  2. In your opinion, what would happen if the CFC leadership wasn't so eager to keep their grunts entertained? More conflicts like Test X FA (ok, they technically are no longer in CFC, but they were when it happened), or just a bigger % of their members going inactive?

Maybe he could be the villain's unstoppable henchman. We could call him Chinpussy Galore?

  5. Tomorrow Never Dies was the last good BrosnoBond. Not quite as good as Goldeneye, but definitely far superior to the rest of his later efforts.

    Plus, Michelle Yeoh!

  6. Thumbs up from me. Entertainment is why we're all here. I do wonder how long Mittani's antics would be tolerated if Goons were losing but they're not and that's largely because he's decided it's better to blue everyone and win than to manufacture reasons to pvp.

  7. No, no no. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the most underrated bond film.

  8. Someone took up your gauntlet and actually asked most of the questions you had put forth last week, Jester. Predictably the responses were underwhelming. TL;DR the CSM sees no big problems in the game. Supercaps are fine (they're too easy to build being the big problem). Tech is now balanced with alchemy. The biggest revelation to me came at around 1:45. I knew there were issues with off-grid boosting, but it sure sounds like it will be completely removed next year at some point.

It was a very lackluster CSM townhall meeting. Tedious in the extreme to listen to the whole thing that comes in at 2.5 hours in total.

  10. Not that this might change your opinion on the war, but the goons are staying docked more often than not. And they've had some serious welps in the last couple days (42X among others).

  11. Remembering Carver... Further proof that Gen Y, and predecessors, are fucked up in the very very insides. Nevertheless, one movie that tries to redeem mechanical wonders where fantasticly OP lazors abound.

And this Town Hall was substantially better than the previous one, and pretty much all your questions were answered, looking forward that article!

  12. The site already has more hits than its retarded cousin (EN24)
And far more objective and unbiased articles than i thought when i started reading it.
BL Fc's writing articles on how they defeat CFC in the USTZ, a view of -A- internal workings, from a character inside -A-.

And for the whole hurfblurf about CFC invading tribute, When you have over 1000 people in fleets you would be dumb not to start the steamroll of a region.
There is little space in nullsec that is both from a logistics point of view aswell as a PVE view as good of a space as tribute and vale is.

NC. already evacuated everything except their doctrine ships over a week ago, cause they know that there is no way in hell they can withstand the might of the CFC when it comes down to taking a region.
You have said it yourself more than once.

    1. I'm curious for your source for themittani.com having more hits than EN24?

    2. Probably Mitten told him that and for him this is enough as evidence.

    3. There are sites on the internet where you can check theese things you know.
When themittani.com got released officially evenews24 dipped down quite abit.
And irc the number correctly, they went even steven at around day2. It has stabilized abit, since it is still a utopia for trolling.
If these numbers are reliable only the future will reveal.

Oh, and FYI im not a member of GSF, but i have a distaste for unedited biased articles released under the umbrella of "free press".
