Welcome to Jester's Trek.
I'm your host, Jester. I've been an EVE Online player for about six years. One of my four mains is Ripard Teg, pictured at left. Sadly, I've succumbed to "bittervet" disease, but I'm wandering the New Eden landscape (and from time to time, the MMO landscape) in search of a cure.

Communicating with the pic of the week

Just a quickie.

For those of you who haven't gone looking for them, here's what the new "District Satellites" look like:

Simple.  Clean.  Elegant.  I like it a lot.  Kudos to the artist that created it, and hopefully we'll see this same sensibility brought to the modular POSes next year.  It's pointing down to one of this planet's 19 Districts, which are warp-ins scattered all around this particular planet.  My assumption is that the District Satellites will be used for orbital bombardment.  DUST bunnies tell you, system X, Planet Y, District Z.  You warp there, then bombardment happens once the logistics and communications are worked out.

Meanwhile, those that want to stop the bombardment have to determine the correct District either from scanning, directional scan, or being told by their own DUST bunny forces which is the right District.  It'll be interesting to see if these District warp-ins get camped.  I can only assume they will be in due course.  This is EVE, after all...

  1. I think camping the district satellites will be easier than coordinating an orbital bombardment attack. What are dusties going to use for voice comms to coordinate with spaceship fleets, Eve Voice?

    1. it will be eve voice, or they will be on Team speak on a pc without PTT enabled (which will annoy the hell outta everyone on there no doubt) EVE voice makes most sense, just one more thing the FC has to take care of I suppose.

  2. And I'm sure people will be hiring dust bunnies, transporting them, and protecting them just to screw with other folks.

That's a nice PI planet you got there ... be a shame if something were to happen to it ...

  3. I'm a EVE beginner but the first thing I thought when hearing about these satellits, is when someone "warps to a planet", before it was either the planet or the customs office (maybe a moon for a POS), but now you add 19 other solutions, the hunt will become harder !

    1. You're absolutely correct. That's 19 more places to hide if you warp in the direction of the system's temperate planets.

    2. Is true and may also be of benefit if the new POS mechanics next year allow for anchoring them directly on planets instead of at moons.

    3. I'm currently in the middle of a depression, but as a prober, you can't imagine how this possibility to have an even more important role makes me happy. Maybe I should stop taking my medicine right now... :P

  4. You seem to have missed that districts with someone on grid show up on the overview...

    1. ? They appear on Overview if you're on grid with them and you have Satellites on your Overview. They don't seem to spontaneously appear if you don't or you're not on grid. Or am I missing something?

    2. If I read it correctly they're similar to FW plexes, when somebody is on grid with a satellite that satellite shows up for anyone in system (assuming those other people put satellites on their overview).

  5. The Satellites won't be a place to hide as soon as anybody is around (even cloaked) they become visible to any one in the system (who has activated it in his overview settings) like a cyno.

  7. Honestly, the designs for modular POS that were posted years ago in the "Beating a dead horse" thread were fantastic and they really should just go with those or a variant of those.

I do like these things though.
