Welcome to Jester's Trek.
I'm your host, Jester. I've been an EVE Online player for about six years. One of my four mains is Ripard Teg, pictured at left. Sadly, I've succumbed to "bittervet" disease, but I'm wandering the New Eden landscape (and from time to time, the MMO landscape) in search of a cure.

Recycling day: Rigging the market

Just a quickie.  There will definitely be more about this topic.

Remember how back in July I said that capital size rigs were probably coming?  And remember how I told those of you out there that had an eye on a T2-rigged super-cap for one or another of your characters should get moving on that?  And remember how a small number of you told me I was being paranoid?

Yeah well, this happened today.

If you were getting ready to buy that T2-rigged super or were thinking a T2-rigged triage Archon would be fun, I'm sorry but you're already too late.  The T2 rig and salvage markets are going absolutely insane.  CCP just buffed veteran players by raising the value of their T2-rigged capitals and supers by anywhere from two to seven billion ISK.  Each.  And that's at today's prices.  We can only hope that "new exploration" possibilities include new sites for finding salvage because otherwise we're all pretty screwed.

If you are a new player that's been thinking about getting a carrier or dreadnought, buy it today and rig it today.  Even if you can't fly it for several months, get this done with large rigs right now.  Get another player you trust to help you.  There's every reason to think that the volatility in the T2 salvage market is going to hit the T1 salvage market too for parts like Armor Plates (used to make Trimarks) and Tripped Power Circuits (used to make CCCs).

I'll have lots more to say about this when I've had time to think it through.  I've also asked a couple of questions about it in the thread.  It's entirely possible that there might not be the capability to produce T2 rigs if CCP doesn't turn on the invention cycle for these new BPOs.  They didn't for the new mining rigs, after all...

  1. Hmm. I didn't consider the possibility of there not being t2 capital rigs. I would be sad if that wasn't going to be an option.

  2. T1 salvage market have been bad for last year. Maybe there wasn't enough people running mission after incursion; maybe people stopped salvaging after the meta 0 drop nerf... but there's not enough t1 salvage materiial on the market.

    1. T1 salvage prices dropped, so mission runners stopped salvaging their missions. As prices go up, they start salvaging again.

      No big deal.

T1 salvage is one of those unlimited supply items in EVE, just like minerals. It just needs to be worth someone's game time/effort to mine it.

  3. Well, the mining rigs were only created so that one can reach the stats of the old Skiff and Mackinaw with the new barges, so T2 versions of them where not really necessary. I see them rather as a weaker version of subsystems than standard rigs.

Regarding the change itself: A mixed bag for me. I will surely enjoy the rising salvage prices in the coming weeks, but my carrier-character in training certainly disapproves. I will surely check my options to get a Archon rigged, but as the char will finish his skillplan in late '14 ...

    1. CSM8 election results won't be announced until Saturday at the CCP Presents keynote.

    2. UNLESS you go early to Fanfest and CCP Unifex throws out thinly-veiled comments, knowing winks, and not-so-subtle nods.

  5. On the other hand it is a buff to newbies who collect salvage (as many in null blocs are encouraged to do).

I'm in Test and it should be great for our newbies as they can ask for free salvage destroyers from the corp and we have amarr-style rats that salvage to armour plates quite often.

  6. Yep, CCP Tallest... as usual, it takes him 3 years to listen to what the players have been telling him on the forums.

He probably spent 2 years trying to figure out that capital rigs should require 5x the materials of large rigs.

    What a loser.

  7. Please really press them on this... It reeks of unintended consequences, and this certainly isn't the first time CCP did stuff with a rather shocking disregard of obvious consequences! As a player about to buy his first cap (sigh, it'll have to be after patch) for a small alliance's brand new cap fleet, I need you going to bat!

    You are wrong.
Every salvage part has upper price limit. When Intact Armor Plates hit 30m per piece, it become profitable to self-destruct Purifiers for salvage. T1 salvage you can get from really cheap t1 frigates and I seriously doubt any t1 salvage will ever break 1m/piece.
Unless rig market exceeds T1 minerals / moon goo market.
