Welcome to Jester's Trek.
I'm your host, Jester. I've been an EVE Online player for about six years. One of my four mains is Ripard Teg, pictured at left. Sadly, I've succumbed to "bittervet" disease, but I'm wandering the New Eden landscape (and from time to time, the MMO landscape) in search of a cure.

The polls are open!

Voting for the CSM8 election has begun!  Unfortunately, the voting tool is... not ideal.

Here's the link you'll need:
http://bit.ly/vote-ripard
Unfortunately, I cannot provide a single link that just votes a set slate of candidates.  That's the very bad news.  The good news is that the null-sec blocs can't either.  Everyone has to fill in their ballots manually.  To do so, just log in using your EVE accounts then start dragging people you'd like to vote for into the slots provided one by one, then click the big yellow SUBMIT VOTE button.  It's going to be a pain, but please persevere!  I realize how annoying it's going to be.  I'm running in this election and I could barely stand to fill in a full ballot.  But here's what I ask that your full ballot look like:

Please persevere to the end.  Please feel free to make changes here and there if you wish, but please vote for a full slate of 14 candidates.  This is the only way to ensure that your full vote is not wasted!

Here is my list of who I endorse and why I endorse them:
  1. Ripard Teg
  2. Malcanis
  3. Trebor Daehdoow
  4. Ali Aras
  5. Mangala Solaris
  6. Nathan Jameson
  7. Korvin
  8. Corebloodbrothers
  9. riverini
  10. Roc Wieler
  11. Psychotic Monk
  12. James Arget
  13. Unforgiven Storm
  14. progodlegend
Here is why you shouldn't vote for any of the major bloc candidates unless you are a member of those blocs yourself.

If the system changes so that I can just give you a single link that will automatically vote the slate, I will update this post.

Your vote is important.  I hope that you'll vote for my slate, but even if you do not, please go voteThank you so much for your support!

EDIT (7/Apr/2013): The previously included script to auto-vote has been disabled by CCP.  However, they have introduced three compromise measures:
  • candidates are sortable using the "Sort A-Z" button to make them easier to find;
  • you can double-click candidates to move them to the next available slot instead of dragging; and,
  • once you select a candidate order, it apparently gets saved and is available as an option for the next account you log in.
Please disregard the edit below, which -- since we're likely to find it had a significant impact on the election -- is included for historical interest.

EDIT (4/Apr/2013):

Easy mode for multiple account holders:

  5. Press the Vote Button in your bookmark bar.
  6. Make sure the vote list is okay.
  7. Hit Submit Vote.
  8. Repeat the steps four through seven for every account you have.
  9. You can delete the bookmark when you're done.

  1. Didn't vote for your slate - Sorry ;)

But somehow you end up on number one every time. Also: after several times of voting you really get the hang of it...

    1. They did that for a while, and one year a candidate whose name started with "A" got a statistically significantly higher than expected number of votes. Really! She even got on the CSM (and was later removed for an NDA violation).

    3. Jester, that candidate was a Dutch woman. There's quite a lot of Dutch eve players, and I figure lots of them voted for her because she was a) a woman and b) Dutch. Not necessarily in that order :-)

Too bad she turned out to be somewhat crazy...

  8. So you got to the top of all my votes. Congrats!
The voting GUI wasn't that bad. Yes, it took five minutes of your time if you had five accounts to vote with, but much better than the alternative disaster if they would have let the blocks pre-fill the ballots. Props to CCP for not caving in to that request!

    Best of luck!

  11. Windoze file manager we meet again! One word, Clunky! Would be nice if there was a right to left movement of the voting tags without having to scroll. Idk perhaps a drop down by every toon with a simple: Who would you like for Queen and then select in order the runners-up fairy princesses. Better yet how about we don't vote this way at all!
At least when you are moving say downloaded porn pics. Going from your download folder to that hidden folder on the third hard drive on the left that is expanded a foot off the bottom of the screen, (you know because the pic tag will interfere with the others if you just save it there) it's something you want to do. vOv Just kidding! I know you can open another window. hmmm.

  12. Okay persevere I did and I cast 5 votes (5 accounts). The first 6 names remained in the order that you recommended, however, I moved riverini to the 7th spot and slid the remaining names to the right. I feel riverini deserves some credit for his contribution to Eve. Thanks for your effort Ripard and I hope you are elected. I will feel much better about the CSM process if you are part of it. Good luck Sir!

Well, I said in a response to a previous blog of yours I would vote for you. On closer examination of your endorsements, I realize I cannot vote for you.

You have endorsed a goon (saying he is independent is irrelevant, he is still in the goon power bloc). You also endorsed a well known high sec griefer, while ignoring the closest thing to true high sec candidate, Mike Azariah.

Sorry, but you are starting to look like the the null sec zealots that are ruining this game.

    1. Him or Mynna, most likely.

Depends on whether the indpendents or the bloc-vote gets more seats.

Also, the independents do have a few other viable choices for chair... (e.g. Trebor or Mika Azariah, if he gets in).

And Malcanis is a potential consensus choice between bloc-party and independents.

They'd mostly heard of you anyway, so it wasn't a hard sell :). Our slates were roughly You + WH candidates (being a WH corp). The order/makeup varied a little player to player, but I don't think anyone put any nullsec bloc candidates on. We'd rather our votes weren't counted than contribute to a nullsec bloc takeover.

    1. Honestly, this was a really hard decision. Mike is a *really* good guy, very nice, very professional. But there's not a lot of *there* there. He's much better as a CSM commentator than a CSM member. Listen to his Xander interview and you can see that. Before long, Mike is talking about the CSM in general terms instead of talking about a CSM with him on it.

It's a pretty major flaw. The CSM doesn't need more listeners and commenters.
