Welcome to Jester's Trek.
I'm your host, Jester. I've been an EVE Online player for about six years. One of my four mains is Ripard Teg, pictured at left. Sadly, I've succumbed to "bittervet" disease, but I'm wandering the New Eden landscape (and from time to time, the MMO landscape) in search of a cure.

Tuesday is recycling day: Technetium

Just a quickie.

I'm doing a bit of a clean-up of some old notes and I came across this:
The Technetium party cannot last forever, and we cannot trust CCP to rebalance moons with any kind of competence – just look at what happened during the dys/prom nerf. To maintain reimbursements and our ~soviet ideological purity~, we must save for whatever dark and unpredictable times are ahead – and that means sieging Pure Blind.
Those dark and unpredictable times?  We've been waiting for them to start for twenty months since this was written.  In 2011.

I guess we can hope Odyssey is going to address some of this.  I'm really looking forward to seeing some presentations on this topic in a week or so!  I'm quite sure there will be some.~

Yes, my take on CCP Unifex is coming.  Next post.

  1. If TECH isn't addressed this summer in Odyssy I don't expect it to be touched for another 2 years TBH

    1. Tech moons will be reshuffled in null. That's about it.

The expectation is that moving the Tech moons around will force the null alliances to go to war to get them back.

Mittens already knows about this, however, and is already attempting to forge agreements with the other null alliances to share, rather than fight.

  2. We pretty much know it's going to address some of this. CCP Unifex's pax slides show moon goo symbols on the slide used to talke about rebalancing resource distribution.

It is interesting that they're tackling it from the resource distribution side when the issue is resource usage. The problem is that EVERYTHING T2 is made of Tech, not that Tech distribution is out of line with other moderately rare moon minerals.

    1. Here's a thought:

Drop moon mining and moon goo, and make the t2 products P2 planetary interaction products, utilizing existing P1 materials that are currently underutilized.

Instead of fighting over very rare moons that are mined by corporation POSs, push fighting over planets mined by individuals in a corp. Corps get their cut by POCO taxes, players get a source of income, lots of fighting over POCOs and sytems, null sec retains advantage by virtue of (existing) better planets and tie in another DUST link.

Its mad, I know, but it would really shake thing up.

  3. It's not clear to me how moving the bottle neck to another thing that's only available in null space is going to fix the big blue doughnut.

    1. There is always going to be a bottleneck of some kind for every product that is produced in EVE no matter what it is (unless you find something made entirely of trit). The question is whether or not you can re-balance to make those resource bottlenecks fall to different materials in areas more dispersed than the northern half of 0.0.

    2. I hope CCP introduces a new Drone Incursion with speical drones that poop moon goo

  4. Within the bloc alliaces, moons being nerfed is highly-anticipated in June's expansion and the message is find a way to replace that loss if it becomes a reality. I will be quite happy if it does, because it is quite a mess as is now.

  5. that reads like something broadcast by Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf.

  6. The markets surely are expecting a tech something, but Jita has been wrong before in predicting CCP's development efforts.

    1. That is just Goon market manipulation. They are playing the same game with ice, too - and spreading rumors that all ice will move to null.

  7. Sheeeeesh the Goons TECH war chest has gotten so big they're ow handing out free carriers

  8. Best thing for them to do is rebalance the blueprints. But that would take effort beyond anything CCP is willing to exert. So we'll get another BandAid that might generate some conflict. For a while. Until the Goons finish conquering and moving into whatever region supplies the new bottleneck resource. Then it's back to the Big Blue Donut. Oh well, a year of major fights will be good enough for now.

  9. Ice is being moved to null sec, per Soundwave. This keeps the null alliances fat and happy, with a new monopoly, while smacking down on the ice bot miners.

    2. ICE being moved to NULL? lol I can already hear the screams from all thosein HI SEC POS's making thier own fuel

    3. Soundwave wanted to move all ice to null, but, so far, he hasn't been able to get Unifex to agree - Unifex wants to push all ice to high sec, to force the null alliances to defend vulnerable supply lines. So, Soundwave is now pushing the agenda to move all "good" missions and NPC drops to null instead, since this only requires a few database tweaks.

    4. Most of the botters in the game are IN null sec...

    5. lol fun rumors... now that Unifex is no longer calling the EP shots & Soundwave isn't being promoted to EP position it still sounds like a stalemate then unless Odyssy does relocate ice outta Hi SEC :P ( if so it'd be funny if all TECH got moved into HI SEC moons )

  10. According to an inside source, Tech moons will indeed be redistributed, but certain resources will also be removed from high sec and be uniquely available *to* null sec.

Discussions are ongoing about such possibilities as removing all meta items from NPC drops in high sec, and moving them entirely to null sec. High sec drops would become metal scraps and ammo, only. Theoretically, this would fix the T1 module industry, as well.

Would not be surprised by that one. Anything that the dev's allied with then null sec RMT cartels can do to hurt high sec they will do.

I also agree that ice will likely be removed from high sec, because there is zero chance of soundwave taking away a huge income stream from his null sec friends without giving them another one.

It is no co-incidence that the null sec zealots have backed way off on the forum propaganda campaign. They null sec leaders were told months ago what the changes were for Odyssey, and they were pleased with them.

    2. "I also agree that ice will likely be removed from high sec..."

Confirmed as nothing but a rumor - probably intended to push up ice, and ice product, prices. Another Goon conspiracy, maybe? ;)

Ice will remain in high sec, but ice belts may get more evenly distributed to all systems, as with mineral belts.

    3. It'd be cooler if Odyssy's exploration scanning mods were for ring/commet mining & the current ICE fields went the way of the DoDo bird along with moon goo slowly over the summer... ICEatopes in HI SEC & Moon goo in NULL/lo sec with a splattering of both in both (WH's too)

    4. Ring mining isn't going to happen anytime soon. It requires too much dev resources, which CCP doesn't have available right now.

  11. Bah I for one, wont miss ice. The base start for piracy in high sec when it comes to ganking miners, is to commence at the ice belts. It was the jump point for New Oder. The easiest concentration of untanked and max yield candy to be taken from miner babies.
