Welcome to Jester's Trek.
I'm your host, Jester. I've been an EVE Online player for about six years. One of my four mains is Ripard Teg, pictured at left. Sadly, I've succumbed to "bittervet" disease, but I'm wandering the New Eden landscape (and from time to time, the MMO landscape) in search of a cure.
You can follow along, if you want...

Bonus FOTW: Iteron Mark V

Oh, very well.  Damn, you people are pushy.

For less paranoid applications, the Itty V should be fit as just a really big blockade runner using the same rules I laid down for those, minus the warp core stab...

It holds about 13k of cargo with Gallente Industrial II, aligns in seven seconds, and tanks reasonably well against a casual gank.  If you feel like you're going to be the subject of a gank (you're seeing a lot of Catalysts or Thrashers heading toward you), overheat the whole mid-rack, then activate them all and use the afterburner to try to get back to the closest stargate before you die.

As with BRs, do not fit Inertia Stabilizers!  Align time rounds up.  Unless you are willing to fit five Interia Stabilizers to reduce your align time to six seconds, don't bother fitting even one.  But I pity you if you do that because it increases your sig to 320 meters.  At that sig, you'll be taking nearly full damage from large weapons.  Ouch.

Replace Nanofibers as needed with Expanded Cargoholds, keeping in mind that the first Nano you replace will increase your align time to eight seconds, and the third Nano you replace will increase it to nine seconds.  But your cargo capacity will increase and increase beyond any other hauler.

But nah, you desperate people aren't asking about the high-sec fit, are you.  You want the paranoid fit, right?  OK, here it is.

Medium Cargohold Optimization I

This takes some good skills to fit those RCU2s.  But you can get the exact same effect using either more T1 Reactor Control Units, or you can fit a pair of Navy Micro Auxiliary Power Cores and a 2-3% grid implant.  The critical thing you're trying to fit is that Microwarpdrive.  And if you don't have Shield Upgrades V, you may have to remove some of the mid slots.  Take them off from the bottom up (so remove the Thermic resists first) until you can fit everything, even if the "everything" you end up fitting is only the MWD and the cloak.  Those are the important bits.

In this configuration you can carry 18k m3 with Gallente Industrial II or 20k with Gallente Industrial V (less if you need to use T1 RCUs).  If you need to carry less cargo, remove the Expanded Cargoholds and replace them with Nanofiber Internal Structures to improve align time.

This is a ship that you will want to learn and practice the 10-second cloaked version of the insta-warp trick.  Here's my guide on it, and here's the Eveopedia's guide on it.  Practice it in high-sec until you've got it down to an art.  On the rare occasions I've flown this ship, I've set auto-repeat on the MWD to OFF, I've moved the cloak to F1 and the MWD to F2 and I use hot-keys for everything.  It takes some practice to build up the muscle memory to pull off an MWD-warp every time.  Once you've mastered it, you can fly this boat straight through a low-sec gate-camp, no problem.  Almost nobody will be on the ball enough to decloak you before you're away, and if you're at all concerned about it replace one EC with a Warp Core Stabilizer.  Blockade runners are obviously superior, of course, but if this is all you have...

Happy hauling!

Ideally with max skills and gal industry v. Holds 38k m3, and I use it for mining support whenever I mine, which is rare.

    1. This is the standard high sec Itty V, except for the small tractor beam, which is useful for mining ops, but otherwise omitted from most fits.

Note: Ofc, you should always fit a salvager on your high sec ships - you never know when you might run across a T2 wreck worth salvaging for those Intact Armor Plates.

    2. intact armor plates which are sadly now worth a fraction of what they were before the patch

  2. why propulsing mods?

i mean i understand that mwd+cloak warp thingy (except that it wont work when you need it because in highsec there is always something that is too close to cloak)
but why an afterburner? usually you undock, warp to gate, jump, warp to gate, jump,... , warp to station, dock.
no use for an afterburner. you could fit more tank.

    1. The AB helps in getting up to warp speed faster.

    2. yeah, but it increases your align time firing off a propulsion mod like an AB (which doesn't help insta warps)

  3. Is the kinetic field simply for extra blaster protection?

    1. Yep. Even the Thrashers are using Titanium Sabot these days.

  4. The Itty V can also be fit for PVP. With a proper fit (see Zedrik Cayne's Itty of Doom, as an example), an Itty V can easily chew up any frigates silly enough to attack you.

  5. But this is lame... the resistance hole for shield tanked ships is EM, not kinetic ... really, are you all high?

3x cargo rig 1 (or what's the point) Adaptive Invuln II, EM amp, MSE II x3 (sorry, my skills suck) 2 x nano, 2 x WCS, 1 x DC2.

8k EHP with nothing running, goes to 12k with active tank. Lame, I know, but better than what I've seen posted.

    1. Nobody's going to try to gank your hauler with lasers and the Thrashers these days use Titanium Sabot. You're closing a hole that nobody's going to try to shoot through.

    2. "You're closing a hole that nobody's going to try to shoot through."

That is never a safe assumption.

And, Thrashers can easily switch to EMP, before the gank attack, to shoot through the nice EM hole you were stupid enough to leave open.

We *do* use scouts with ship scanners to pick our targets, you know.

    3. i thought it was cargo scanners to pick your targets when you're after haulers.

I use this in W-Space to grab cloakies who can't help themselves. Just roll around to customs offices without a care in the world, eventually they'll bite. Fire up the Sebo's when they decloak, scram/neut them and wait for the hammer to strike. Point is there for the occasional long range cloaky, though most use the 3-point scrams so it isn't super needed. You should get a good 30s or so of life out of it, depending on what's shooting you. Plenty of time for your friends/main to drop ontop and squash the hostile.
Salvager is there for taking all that shiny lewt and salvage home :)
You can do the same with an Itty5, you get a good 10k ehp more, but it's lock time is a good 4/5s slower which can be problematic against skittish Stealth Bombers.

  7. Interesting!

However, I'd dare not use active hardeners in highsec, considering where's death coming from.

    1. You can use passives if you wish, but usually you get some warning before a gank attempt.

    2. "...usually you get some warning before a gank attempt."

Yeah, sure, right. Like finding yourself floating in a pod.

Active hardeners are fine for use in high-sec, as long as you always remember to activate them immediately, upon leaving station and upon decloaking at each gate.

Waiting until you are actually attacked to activate them is pretty stupid, though.

  9. The two guides differ in that yours says to hit MWD first then cloak while Eveopedia says hit cloak then MWD (which is what I do - works great). Seems better to me that you cloak before blowing up your sig radius %500 for that half second. Any reason for the discrepancy?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Just that my guide assumes that CCP will fix the bug eventually. My guide also gives the timing for using MWD before initiating warp in the non-cloak version whereas in reality you can hit your MWD after you've initiated warp.

Use whichever method feels comfortable to you.

Not sure why they've not True Slaved the little buggers yet, that'd stop the works from getting all yiffed up·
