EVE Vegas is coming up and has been promised full support from CCP, including the rumor that this will be the second public chance to try the Valkyrie prototypes. Given that the line to try EVR was longer than the entire attendee list likely at EVE Vegas, this would be no small inducement to attend. I myself live only a few hours from Vegas but I'm really conflicted about going. As a member of the CSM, I probably should go. But the event is:
- in Vegas, and I'm really not much of a Vegas guy; and,
- primarily attended by Goons, who on the whole don't care for me.
Four random links this month:
T'Amber and the rest of the group at EOH Games have been busy producing graphics for a string of new ships, including this Sisters of EVE Moros and this Talos Federate Issue. The ship skins are impressive and the viewer is even more impressive. Go check it out if you're a fan of EVE's ships (and who isn't?).
Someone wrote an app to try to plot the future state of EVE corps and alliances. It's kind of amusing. A couple of weeks ago, it assured me TEST was fail-cascading.
A few months back, I pointed to some EVE paper-crafting, someone doing a high-quality Tristan. These aren't quite as high-quality, but it's some impressive work nonetheless. The website itself is in Chinese and takes a while to load, but worth it!
And someone plugged a Velator into Kerbal Space Program. The results are amsing, as are the hacks needed to get the thing to fly at all.
Blog spam is funny. Almost a year or so ago I wrote a post called "I want to do it all again". The title was a play on a Babylon 5 episode where one of the characters says that after he gets stabbed because he has regrets over how he lived his life and he wants to try to make amends. This month, an auto-blog-spammer tried to post this as a comment to it, as well as a link to a website:
Viagra can be taken with or without a meal, but it is advisable to avoid high fat meals, so that the pill can work effectively in lesser time. Most candy makers know all of the interactions (and there are more), and use anise to flavor their treats. There are actually techniques that have been used for thousands of years by men but are not passed on to us by our fathers as they once were. Was anyone taught "techniques" by their fathers? I thought not. Apparently, this was once a thing. ;-) Cough. Anyway, just the sort of comment that requires me to continue moderating comments on this blog, in case you're curious. I get one or two spam comments per day, about 80% of which are caught by blogspot's filter.
A couple of short one-offs...
Early in the month, CSM8 member Mike Azariah got off quite a troll on CCP Mintchip, who traveled to watch the DOTA2 championships. It was funny but not even close to worth a full post.
In July during the height of the Fountain war, GoonWaffe's #1 most-used ship was -- far and away -- the Megathron with more than 10000 kills. Now that the war is over, their #1 is the Harpy, with only one-tenth as many, and Megas had only 450 kills. This is one tiny reason why wars are good for the EVE economy: more expensive ships at risk.
From time to time, I'll make reference to "the art wall" at CCP's offices in Reyk. It's this little walled off area at the back of the art department. I most recently talked about it after Fanfest. Well, I found a CCP video that was partially taken in front of the art wall. If you play it at 1080p and look closely, you might find some interesting things.
In the same post, I referred to Valkyrie as an impractical toy. We'll see if I was right. I'm going to be very curious at the toughness of the Oculus Rift.
And that's all for the junk drawer this month. As I said, not a lot this month.
