Welcome to Jester's Trek.
I'm your host, Jester. I've been an EVE Online player for about six years. One of my four mains is Ripard Teg, pictured at left. Sadly, I've succumbed to "bittervet" disease, but I'm wandering the New Eden landscape (and from time to time, the MMO landscape) in search of a cure.

CSM8 Status Report: Week forty-eight

11 months in the term are in the history books now, one month to go!

Obviously, the big news this past week was the publication of about 2/3 of the Winter Summit Minutes. CCP still needs to announce the overall theme of the upcoming expansion and once that's done, we'll be pushing for the remainder of the Minutes to be published. Even as it was, a number of little Easter eggs were revealed in the Minutes published to date. I'll leave things at that for now, except to encourage you to read them... Obviously, expect more from me once CCP actually starts releasing details of what we can expect for the summer!

CCP Fozzie couldn't resist trolling Malcanis in the EVE-O forum thread about the Minutes, though:
Most of you probably should have learned this by now, but you're pretty much always best to ignore anything Malcanis posts (on any forum).
Or, you know... maybe he was serious. It's so hard to tell with him sometimes. ;-)

The CSM9 elections are starting up as you read this and as you know, I've released my endorsements. And speaking of Malcanis, I'm not the only outgoing CSM8 member to have done so. Here's his endorsement list which is going to look fairly familiar...
Vote for diversity of expertise : Ali Aras  Mangala Solaris  Mike Azariah  Steve Ronuken  James Arget  Xander Phoena  Sugar Kyle  corbexx  mynnna  progodlegend  Psychotic Monk  Jayne Fillion
Gotta say I was kind of entertained by Malcanis's list being so similar to mine... Trebor Daehdoow has also published an endorsement list that has a few different names, as has Mike Azariah. And a number of bloggers have also released endorsements. Here's Rixx Javix's list, Kirith Kodachi's, and The Nosy Gamer's.

So, absolutely no lack of opinions out there! Whomever you decide to vote for, please vote!

The private section of the forums has dialed back a bit, as has the Skype channel. Between heads-down working on summer features and getting ready for Fanfest, there just isn't a lot of time for much else right now. This has suited the CSM members who are running for reelection who are obviously pretty focused on that. Cap Stable and Legacy of a Capsuleer are running out of people to interview. ;-)

There will be one more CSM Town Hall before CSM9 takes office. I'm going to start working with Neville Smit and DJ Wiggles very shortly. Target date will be the weekend before Fanfest but I'll put out an official announcement as soon as the date is chosen and all the ducks are lined up.

And that's it for this week!

  1. Sorry if I have missed this somewhere, but what happened to the Dust Minutes from the Summer Summit?

    1. They will probably be released after Fanfest or never (I fear the latter is more likely due to marketing and damage control reasons).
Both, the CPM and CCP, are quiet about what CCP Rouge will deliver at Fanfest, especially with no CPM elections...

  2. "...a number of little Easter eggs were revealed in the Minutes published to date."

You must be referring to a different set of Minutes. According to the published Minutes, you guys met with CCP, enjoyed each others company, and contributed not at all to any major improvements or fixes to the game whatsoever.

    1. lol... 3 month old eggs. What does that smell like?

    2. If the rest of the "eggs" are anything like the idiotic changes to reprocessing, I'd just as rather never hear about them.

Dunno what private section you're looking at but I'd say it's continuing to heat up...

    1. Compared to two weeks ago?

    2. Think you mixed up the CSM skype with the goons and CCP devs' private Skype channel.

  4. Why nobody seems to endorse Gorski Car? He seems to be one of the better candidates to me and he's a lowsec candidate, just like some other people who are a popular choice with bloggers.

    1. Because he doesn't have a big null sec alliance bloc to support him.

  5. I don't feel like I have enough information to vote in the CSM9 election. A full 1/3 of the last minutes are still not published, and that means I can't match candidate names with what the summer expansion is going to offer. We don't even know what the main theme of the summer expansion is going to be yet! We don't know its name. We don't know all the features it's going to contain. Personally, I feel as though I need all that information in order to evaluate the slate of CSM9 candidates.

I'm simply not going to vote for someone based on how sexy their pronunciation of "NDA" is. That elections are being held before all the minutes are published and the summer expansion's features are announced is asinine.

    1. The easiest way around that is to not vote for any current CSM members; there's plenty of new candidates out there, and changeover is good in politics as it keeps things fresh.

  6. So, uh, remember last year's really bad get out the vote efforts and relatively paltry voter turn out? Remember how virtually every member of the current CSM said that was unacceptable and CCP needed to do more next year? How's that going?

    1. It is a tradition. The current CSM always says that something needs to be done; promises that, if elected, they will do something about it; and then utterly fails to deliver.

    2. Yes, but to be fair they can't really do anything to deliver on whatever it is they promise. The most they can realistically promise to do is pay attention and put in the time to keep up to speed with what's going on. They're a focus group more than anything else. Want to NOT get my vote? Promise you'll "make CCP do something". That's a sure sign that a candidate doesn't understand the CSM's role.

    3. As the OP, I just want to add that I was very, very pleased with this CSM. It would have been a slam dunk CSM if there had been a meaningful get out of the vote campaign, but this, right now seems to be one area where they've not been able to move CCP one bit. If anything, it seems to have gotten worse. Could something happen in the next two weeks that changes my mind? Absolutely. But right now this looks like CCP and the CSM totally and completely dropped the ball on this one and I'd like to know why.
