First, on the pre-Fanfest stream, CCP Fozzie had revealed that six ships would be revealed at Fanfest:
- two ships that would be of limited use to most players but would be exciting;
- one ship that is a T2 upgrade to one of the most popular ships in EVE; and,
- three ships that "fill a void we've been wanting to fill".(1)
The Guristas Chameleon will be a cruiser based on the Blackbird hull with:
- 20% per Gallente cruiser level to kinetic and thermal missiles;
- 4% per Caldari cruiser level to shield resistances;
- 30% per Recon level to ECM jammer bonus; and,
- 600% bonus to medium drone damage, with 20 bandwidth.
EDIT (2/May/2014): CCP Fozzie confirms there was an error on the slide yesterday that showed the Chameleon's stats. It's going to have 20 bandwidth, not 50. The original version of this post said 50 bandwidth. So two 600% bonused medium drones, not five. Whew! Still pretty crazy, but not monster insane.
The Whiptail frigate prize, by contrast, is sort of a super interceptor. It doesn't strike me as nearly as crazy for tournament use, though particularly daring and confident pilots will have fun with it on Tranquility.
The second Guristas-related announcement, I'm not sure how excited I am about yet. The EVE: Valkyrie team is working on the lore for their new space game. Turns out the Valkyries will be part of a breakaway faction of the Guristas. Early information hints that though Valkyrie itself will still be multi-player, it will have a mission-oriented aspect (perhaps as part of the tutorial or training?). That part of the game will be narrated by the voice of Katee Sackhoff, which is very freakin' cool:
The game is also switching from the Unity engine to the Unreal 4 engine. However, no mention was made of sticking to the intended late 2014 release date announced last year. Valkyrie EP Owen O’Brien also made refereces to some changes in direction and focus in the development of the game over the last year. That makes me wonder if Valkyrie will still make it out the door before year-end. Hope so! The little bit of footage they showed today was looking really cool!
But with the shift in tone to Guristas for the lore of the game, plus a new set of custom fighters (tossing out the Empire carrier fighters used in previous iterations), that makes me wonder how hard or easy the eventual integration of Valkyrie to the rest of EVE is going to be. I myself was hoping for a very tight integration at some point down the road. Of course that's still possible but the initial direction makes it harder. That said, DUST tried for integration right away too... Maybe doing it this way is for the best.
So it was a Guristas-related day today!
Finally, to my amusement... I was sitting in the back during Katee Sackhoff's pre-recorded video. I'm sure she wasn't pointing at me, though. ;-)
(1) That's what she said. Yeah, I know.
The chameleon's stats must be wrong.
ReplyDeleteAs statted now, with the 50 bandwidth, it does upwards of 2k dps. 2300 if you use hams with rage
Correct, Fozzie corrected it to 20mbit on Twitter.
Deletehttps://twitter.com/CCP_Fozzie/status/462013556838662144
And confirmed with him on Skype this morning, and post corrected.
DeleteSo-- the other three are going to be Cal/Min pirate ships, eh? Frigate, cruiser, and battleship?
ReplyDeleteI vote this.
DeleteThe more I think about it, the more I realize that it's probably true. Consider that the Wraithe Mk. II uses missiles and -autocannons,- but is a Guristas fighter.
DeleteThe website says they are Gatling lasers. Even though they look like, sound like, and act like autocannons, as well as not being a Gatling setup with just 2 guns in fixed placements per side of the ship.
DeleteOH! The T2 ship! If it's a single ship, then either it's going to be a T2 Orca, Rorqual, or Venture.
ReplyDeleteMy bet is the Venture-- a covert cloak, a bit more mining potential, and bam. Or if they're wanting to be hilariously evil, they won't go covert cloak-- they'll make it interdiction nullified.
Hmm, the idea of a T2 Orca sent a shiver down my spine...
DeleteDefinitely going to be a T2 Venture. The new login screen has two of them, each using three mining lasers.
DeleteA T2 Venture popped up on SiSi a while ago iirc.
DeleteCCP proving once again that they no longer know their own game - connecting a missile damage bonus to a Gallente skill (again)!
ReplyDeleteNot true. These ships are designed for older PVP players - the ones who have *all* of the skills maxed out already.
DeleteCCP has proven time, and time again, that these players are their primary focus.
considering it is a AT prize ship, your chances of flying one are:
Delete1. Buckleys
2. None
I was annoyed when yet another group of ships (SoE) ended up with mag sensors. That's Gall, ORE and now SOE. But no one listens.
@Anon402
DeleteThe complaint is not about knowing the players; it's about CCP not knowing the game they created. As in the lore. As in there is no strictly Gallente ship aside from their stealth bomber which carries any sort of missile bonus. The missile bonuses on Guristas ships were always part of the Caldari half of the design. With the recent changes to Guristas ships, CCP threw the lore out the window because they were to lazy to do the job right and find a better solution (of which three were many were proposed in the comment threads on these changes).
I think the 3 filling a void they wanted to fill will be e-war battleships to fill in the non Caldari races.
ReplyDeleteA t2 ship related to industry to go along with the industry theme this expansion is my guess. I would guess Venture as well.
The issue there is that we then have 4 Amarr, Minmatar and Gallente BS, but only 3 Caldari BS. CCP's not likely to do that due to the amount of player butthurt. :x
DeleteIt seems more likely they'd repurpose the least-used battleships from the other three races into EWAR boats. Or I guess in the Amarr case just add a TD bonus to the already-repurposed 'Geddon.
DeleteThe Unreal 4 Engine is pretty nice to look at, this is textured by one artist in one day:

Published on Apr 29, 2014, environment created entirely using Quixel SUITE, rendered in Unreal Engine 4. Based on a concept from Deus Ex: HR.
Funny how Hilmar still talks about CARBON in the first moments of Fanfest but Dust514 runs on Unreal 3 Engine (#4 soon for PS4 ?) EvE VR ran on Unity and then upgrades to Eve Valkeryrie on the Unreal 4 Engine.
One starts to wonder what CCP will use for WiS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmOW4eICmT0
Thanks for posting those goon decal-led Monument photo's Ripard, thanks to you it is good to see at least one passed away player name on it.

PS: how is the Eve TV guy ? He had an emergency I heard, hope he gets well soon.

ReplyDelete"This comment has been removed by the author."
DeleteThe one sensible thing you've done all month.
I've always wondered if those notes referred to the comment's author, or the blog's author.
DeleteI'd presume that if the blog author wanted to remove it, he'd take the whole thing out so there wouldn't even be a name and time stamp left, but I could be wrong.
I really disliked the fact valks are supposed to be guristas break-away....would have prefered a sort of "empire" project to make the next step from dusties to figther pilots.
ReplyDeleteAnd the fact its UE4 means it will not be average hardware.
Occulus is already an expensive toy, why on earth put another toll on it.......i have to wonder how CCP thinks their marketing stratgies sometimes.
UE4 scales all the way down to IPhone and has an early version of a browser version in it. It is up to the developers and how much time they have to make lower models and to optimise code to run fast enough on older hardware.
DeleteHas CCP ever marketed the AT ships as a key feature of an expansion before? Them doing it now just further reinforces the expectations of yet another content-less expansion.
ReplyDeleteI watched the ship balancing panel and I don't see where you get key feature of the expansion from. If they were treating it as a key feature it would have more likely been saved for the Eve keynote like the other new ships.
DeleteThe Alliance Tournament was just announced and they announced the ships as part of a ship and module balancing session.
@Anon423
DeleteI get your point, but the quantity of these that will be given out means that they will have virtually no impact on any ship balancing, and as such, the announcement here seems out of place. It's as if they didn't have anything better to talk about.
"three ships that 'fill a void we've been wanting to fill'."
ReplyDeleteMaybe these will finally be gank-proof freighters and haulers... yeah, right....
"However, no mention was made of sticking to the intended late 2014 release date announced last year. Valkyrie EP Owen O’Brien also made refereces to some changes in direction and focus in the development of the game over the last year."
ReplyDeleteCCP, DO NOT WoD THIS GAME. Pick a goddamn design, lock it down, build it, and ship it.
The imperfect game you ship is better than the perfect game that you don't.
First remember you are talking about a game that was a tech demo a year ago where the decision to actually develop was decided, and it was I believe December when he said they adjusted the design. Second their change in design philosophy didn't appear to require more than a minor shift, and most of the gameplay mechanics likely din't require any changing.
DeleteThe development of Valkyrie appears well ahead of their approach to WoD and much smoother than Dust's, so I continue to be optimistic about its launch.
I'm not saying it's DOOMED, but at a certain point you have to say "this is what we're going to do," and CCP has a spotty record with doing that.
DeleteI really, really want Valkyrie to ship.
"That part of the game will be narrated by the voice of Katee Sackhoff, which is very freakin' cool"
ReplyDeleteThat is one lame ass video.
Be fair. I'll bet money she shot that after a long day of shooting her regular TV series. She was tired and just having a little fun.
DeleteCalling AT prize ships "of limited use to most players" is an understatement on par with "the war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan's advantage". There's what, a limit of fifty all-time on the prize ships? And one of those frigates or cruisers is probably going to cost as much as a well-fit Titan.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the Ferrari dealership that was around the corner from my office in downtown Athens. Selling rich men's expensive toys during an economic crisis.
They're out of business now.
